DSIC and Wärtsilä to design shuttle tanker

The joint industry project – with classification support from DNV GL – is intended to generate a design with a dynamic positioning (DP) system. A ready and approved design for owners to purchase will significantly reduce the building period.

The 127,000dwt shuttle tanker design is targeted for operation in the North Sea and on the Norwegian Continent Shelf. The design features DP2 capacity and a twin propulsion system, and is already in compliance with Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase 3 regulations.

Wärtsilä will provide technical design support for the project. This will include developing an optimised propulsion and thruster solution and machinery with an electric configuration for the vessel’s DP control system.
