Brunvoll propulsion for pioneering fishing vessel

The 66.9m loa Cape Arkona is based on a design by Norwegian naval architect Skipskompetanse and will be built by Baatbygg. The Brunvoll system delivery consists of a gear- and controllable piched propeller plant with nozzle, tunnel thruster, rudder and steering gear, emergency telegraph system and complete control system.

The propeller system is a hybrid twin-in single-out gearbox with a father and son diesel engine configuration and electric motor for diesel-electric mode. The system provides flexibility and redundancy by allowing operation from three possible engine solutions. The plant is prepared for installation of battery pack for and space dedicated to a future battery installation has already been allotted on the ship.

The 3,000kW main engine and auxiliary have been prepared for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) to comply with future IMO Tier III NOx requirements. The propulsion configuration also enables a 35-40dB reduction.
