The 399,999 dwt Pacific Vision is the first to implement the DNV GL’s SmartShip notation, awarded for its integration platform, a smart navigation decision support system, energy efficiency management and optimisation system and smart vessel operation and maintenance system.

“It’s a great honour to have worked with Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipyard, China Merchant Energy Shipping Company, and SDARI to develop the world’s first iVLOC,” said Norbert Kray, DNV GL’s regional manager Greater China.

“With the SmartShip notation, we wanted to give customers a platform to clearly present the new technologies they were utilising to optimise performance, enhance safety, and minimise their environmental impact,” he added.

The ship has features including operational, performance and condition monitoring enhancement. From keel laying on 24 Dec 2015 to the final delivery, DNV GL worked with with SDARI, Shanghai Waigaoqiao and the associated manufacturers for the design implementation, site survey/verification and component/system certification.

The VLOC is 362m long, 65m wide, has a depth of 30.4m and a draught of 23m and will operate between Brazil and Asia together with a likely deployment for trade between Brazil and Europe.
