MV Werften to acquire local ship designer

The acquisition remains subject to approval from cartel authorities.

The acquisition will also permit MV Werften to extend its special vessel design capabilities. In November 2018, ABS granted Approval in Principal (AIP) to Neptun Ship Design for its energy efficient Wind Turbine Transport Vessel design.

The design was the first to support transporting parts for turbines greater than 9 MW. The 178m long design allows wind turbine manufacturers to produce full length welded towers ready for installation.

Windpower analysts such as Bloomberg New Energy Finance and market participants, such as Orsted, agree that the market for offshore wind will increase rapidly between 2019 and 2030. Technological advances in blade design and hub heights is set to drive demand for larger offshore wind turbines in the near term.
