Navantia delivers Monte Urquiola Suezmax

The 156,000 DWT, 274-long and 48-metre wide vessel has a capacity for 175,000 m3 of oil and can accommodate up to 36 crew. Navantia is currently finishing the fourth Suezmax vessel.

Built for Spanish shipping operator Grupo Ibaizábal, the ship is powered by one six-cylinder two-stroke engine and three auxiliary engines. The Monte Urquiola’s main engine delivers 14,275kW, while the three auxiliary engines deliver 1,250kW per engine.

The group was expected to sign an agreement to assemble an offshore electric substation for the Sven Sverdrup oil field in the North Sea by the end of January.

Navantia recently released a strategic plan for the group, focused on developing robotization and advanced construction techniques, as well as diversifying into building structures for the offshore market. The group’s management reached an agreement with the unions around restructuring in order to improve the group’s profitability in late 2018.
