SFK is keen to further the city’s green credentials and chose Holland Shipyards because of its impressive hybrid drive train proposal and appealing ship design. Through its many years of working with hybrid vessels, Holland Shipyards is also well placed to understand which drivetrain set-up suits which type of location.

The ferry’s hybrid drivetrain can be powered by either generators or by means of a battery bank for emission-free operation when in the city centre. Intermittent switching between the two power sources during operations will be at the push of a button.

Construction of the ferry, named Gaarden, will take approximately 12 months during which time SFK has the option to order a further three sister vessels.
