WinGD engines for Evergreen newbuilds
The 23,764 teu container vessels will exceed the size of MSC’s Gulsun class ultra-large container ships when complete. The vessels will be built by Evergreen partner Samsung Heavy Industries while future newbuildings at Jiangnan Shipyard and Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding may also be agreed.
The 400 metres-long, 61.5 metres-wide vessels will be equipped with WinGD 11X92-B main engines. The vessels will also be fitted with modern scrubber systems to ensure compliance with the IMO 2020 sulphur cap.
Rolf Stiefel, vice president, Sales and Marketing, WinGD, said: “This order underlines the positive business relationship between Evergreen and WinGD. It’s a significant order that cements our strong position within the large containership segment.”
The X92-B type engines are equipped with the latest state-of-the-art common rail technology, which results in lower fuel consumption across the entire operating range, especially at low and part loads.
If the order with Jiangnan Shipyard and Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding is confirmed, it will represent the first time that Evergreen has ordered ships directly for its own account at mainland China yards.
