Chengxi launches largest wood chip carrier
The vessel, the first of four ordered for Singapore-based wood chip specialist Nova Carriers, will become the largest wood chip carrier in operation when it enters service.
The vessel is the first 5.00 million cubic feet wood chip carrier to enter the market. This represents a slightly increased cargo hold capacity compared with the 4.7 million cubic feet capacity of Nova Carriers’ Batavia Express.
Nova Carriers currently operates over a dozen wood chip carriers, but continues to lag behind the largest suppliers of tonnage to the sector, MOL and NYK Lines.
The vessel is designed to fit within the dimensions of key import terminals, such as the Port of Amsterdam’s St Laurenshaven terminal. The vessel’s length overall of 215.4m and breadth 37m.
