UECC launches new LNG battery hybrid PCTC

The new UECC PCTCs meet Tier 3 IMO NOx emission regulations for the Baltic and North Sea and will be equipped with battery hybrid solutions and dual-fuel LNG engines. The remaining two vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2022.

“With the launch of our first LNG battery hybrid PCTC, we are ushering in a new era for UECC and short sea shipping in Europe,” said Glenn Edvardsen, chief executive of UECC. “These ships prove that decarbonisation of the industry is possible using currently available technologies.”

The battery power on the new vessels will improve operational efficiency and reduce emissions through peak shaving, as well as handling partial accommodation load, driving auxiliary equipment and reducing emissions whilst at port. The ships are also equipped with dual-fuel LNG engines for main propulsion and auxiliaries.

With a length overall of 169 metres and width of 28 meters, the new PCTCs have capacity for 3,600 units over ten cargo decks.
