Solvang opts for vibration monitoring tool
The vibration monitoring system, Enlight ProCollect, was developed by SKF, and will allow the shipowner to monitor a range of onboard rotating equipment.
Solvang carried out a two year pilot of the solution onboard a Solvang vessel. The shipowner tested the vibration sensors with Enlight ProCollect, and then adopted asset condition and maintenance recommendations. In effect, Solvang shifted from a routine/time-based maintenance intervals to a predictive maintenance programme.
The insight into the vessel’s machinery condition has been extremely valuable for Solvang, allowing the technical office to support the crew more closely.
Solvang decided to sign a five-year deal to install the system across nine vessels in its fleet in Q1 2021. The system consists of SKF’s QuickCollect vibration sensors and the ProCollect app. This will allow the company to identify equipment failure early, helping it to reduce unplanned downtime and maintenance costs.
The contract includes access to SKF’s Enlight Centre, which helps to analyse and interpret data from the sensors.
The QuickCollect sensor is easy to use and does not require extensive training or diagnostic expertise. It collects data in real time, which can be viewed directly in the app or uploaded to the cloud for further analysis.
