ZeroNorth to bolster vessel performance offering by applying AI to Propulsion Dynamics models

ZeroNorth and Propulsion Dynamics were among 11 participants in a Danish consortium to build a new industry-wide standard to measure the accuracy of vessel fuel consumption models.

Propulsion Dynamics was an early adopter in the development of vessel performance optimisation, and has developed unrivalled insight into how vessel hydrodynamics can impact fuel consumption. The company offers full-scale digital twin ship performance analysis through its CASPER service. The fuel consumption tables provided by Propulsion Dynamics offer particular insights into the optimisation of a range of tramp shipping vessels, including those on short-term time charter agreements.

The acquisition marks ZeroNorth’s entry into the fuel optimisation market; ZeroNorth plans to extend its market proposition and offer new products and services. Using the experience from Propulsion Dynamics’ 25,000+ ship models with ZeroNorth’s technology and machine learning expertise, ZeroNorth will be able to considerably scale up CASPER’s potential use cases in the market. This will allow ZeroNorth to immediately strengthen its Optimise solution, permitting the software to offer more authoritative recommendations to increase revenue and cut emissions for tramp shipping vessels.

ZeroNorth notes that it will remain data agnostic, and its services will connect to whichever fuel consumption model provider their customers select.
