GTT TO SUPPLY SHI WITH FUEL TANKS FOR AMMONIA-READY BOXSHIPS

The 12,000cbm membrane fuel tanks for the LNG-fuelled containerships will be ‘ammonia-ready’ to facilitate a potential conversion of these vessels to operate on ammonia as a fuel.

The order forms part of a series ordered by Seaspan to satisfy a long-term charter agreed in February 2021 with ship operator ZIM. The vessels are scheduled for delivery between the third quarter of 2023 and the first quarter of 2024.

This order signifies another step towards naval solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”

The scope of supply includes the provision of engineering services and on-site technical assistance, as well as the commissioning of the LNG tank, first LNG bunkering operations, as well as further specific LNG operations and maintenance of the vessels. The vessels will also be fitted with GTT’s digital platform for monitoring and optimising their operational performance and their environmental footprint.

GTT services include the HEARS emergency response service, which offers round the clock technical assistance. GTT will also provide LNG training for Seaspan’s crews, supported by its proprietary G-Sim training simulator, which replicates the future LNG operations of the vessels.
