DNV AWARDS TYPE APPROVAL TO PRAXIS LFP BATTERY SYSTEM

Praxis' GreenBattery ESS has received a Type Approval from DNV.

The TA covers the use of the system in vessels, offshore units and high speed and light craft.

The type approval for the liquid-cooled energy storage system comprises switchgear, battery modules and a battery management system (BMS). Up to 30 individual battery cells are connected in series to form a battery module. The type approval covers battery systems of up to 10 modules in parallel and a system BMS.

The type approval specifies a 105Ah capacity LFP cell, with an operational voltage range of 75~110V and an energy of 10 kWh.

Praxis noted that the use of LFP technology offered specific advantages, as the LiFePO4 batteries offer superior life time and temperature range compared with Li-ion NMC batteries. The GreenBattery has a relatively low weight and small volume per stored kWh.

The GreenBattery ESS is part of a fully in-house developed electric and hybrid propulsion solution consisting of Batteries, Permanent Magnet Motors/Generators, High Power Inverters, and Control Systems. The company noted that it has received six orders for its Mega-Guard Electric Propulsion product line since its introduction in 2017.
