EST-Floattech unveils new marine BMS

The Octopus Series is about to begin production with the first models becoming available next year. With both high power and high energy modules, clients can choose between passive, active, forced air or liquid cooling.

Diederick Stam, chief technology officer at EST-Floattech, said that the BMS market was growing. “Sustainable power solutions are becoming accepted and here and there electrically powered vessels are coming into service,” he said.

“As a result, you see more and more differentiation in the applications needed by shipowners and shipbuilders, not only for direct propulsion, but also for equipment, machinery and peak performance and endurance needs,” he added.

The BMS is the interface between battery and application. Whichever energy storage system the client needs, the BMS always has the same interface making it user-friendly. EST-Floattech’s BMS also offers remote monitoring, diagnostics and service.

The high energy NMC batteries are designed for long-duration and large-scale battery installations for systems needing up to several MWh. Easy to install in series they are suitable for medium and large-sized ships sailing electrically for up to eight hours.

The high power NMC modules have a short charging time whilst for applications on land or at sea where space is not an issue, the high energy cobalt-free LFP battery system is said to cut costs and be more sustainable.
