Second polar vessel for Lindblad

The National Geographic Resolution joins sister ship National Geographic Endurance, delivered in 2020, and is now ready to embark on her inaugural polar voyage exploring Antarctica, South Georgia and the Falklands on 17 November.

The 126-guest expedition cruise vessel has been designed by Ulstein Design & Solutions and features a distinctive X-BOW, already proven on more than 100 offshore vessels, which is said to provide fuel efficiency and a smoother ride as well as giving guests an unimpeded view of the water.

“We are very pleased to see Ulstein Verft once again delivering a newbuild polar vessel to Lindblad,” said Cathrine Kristiseter Marti, chief executive at Ulstein. “Lindblad is an experienced and innovative polar explorer and decided to also be a pioneer in introducing the X-BOW into the cruise segment,” she added.

The PC5 ice class vessel meets EPA Tier 4 and IMO Tier III emission standards and has expanded fuel and water tanks enabling extended operations deep in the polar regions. Zero-speed stabilisers give increased comfort when the vessel stops for embarking/disembarking or for wildlife observation.

On board is the Restaurant 270°, named after its panoramic views as well as a spa, yoga and fitness rooms, saunas, hot tubs and glass igloos with reindeer fur-covered daybeds.

For exploring the unique Antarctic environment, there is also an ROV capable of reaching 305 metres below water, 14 expedition crafts and a whole host of equipment such as kayaks, paddle boards, snorkelling gear and cross-country skis.
