TECO 2030 signs green hydrogen MoU with Gen2 Energy
The companies will investigate the supply of green hydrogen from Gen2 Energy for projects where their customers need hydrogen and power conversion through fuel cells either in ports, offshore fish farms or other heavy-duty applications. Gen2 Energy will incorporate TECO 2030’s marine fuel cells in its seaborn value chain, allowing hydrogen to be transported onboard vessels powered by hydrogen fuel cells.
The project “Hydrogen Hub Nordland” will see the companies work together on soft funding of maritime hydrogen applications and for the development of a complete hydrogen value chain in northern Norway, enabling zero emission sailing along the Norwegian coastline.
Gen2 Energy aims to supply the UK and mainland Europe with green hydrogen from Norway.
TECO 2030 is developing several fuel cell solutions and has received Approval in Principle by DNV for its Marine Hydrogen Fuel Cell System and Fuel Cell Module FCM400. The company will produce fuel cells at its new combined factory and innovation centre in Narvik in northern Norway. The plant will become Norway’s first large-scale facility for the production of hydrogen fuel cells, and it is anticipated that by 2030, the plant will be able to produce up to 1,200MW of fuel cells a year.
TECO 2030 plans to test pilot versions of its fuel cells on the new hydrogen-powered tugboats and transport barges of the Dutch shipowner Chemgas Shipping, which will operate on the Danube. The first delivery is scheduled for 2023.
TECO 2030 has also signed an agreement with the Arctic University of Norway (UiT) to cooperate on enhancing research and education in Norway on hydrogen and fuel cells.
