Korean researchers develop ship-mounted damage management system

The system is designed to support decision making during emergency response and was jointly developed by KRISO, Scanjet Group and LEEYOUNG SND.

The ship-mounted damage control system includes an integrated console within the ship which immediately obtains accident information, locates crew members, and assesses the operability of key equipment such as the engine and generator when an accident occurs.

The system uses data from sensors in the ship to rapidly obtain accident information such as damage location, flooding impact, or diffusion routes of smoke and toxic gases in case of fire.

It uses a simulation database of thousands of pre-defined accident situations to provide damage response guidance in the form of human conversation in the case of fire or flooding and has shortcut keys enabling rapid response to minimize damage in urgent situations.

The information is shared in real time with land-based support systems.

While damage control systems (DCS) developed by foreign companies are already in use, the KRISO developed damage control system uses shortcut keys based on KS Korean Accident Notation Symbols, making a more intuitive and accessible interface for Korean crew.
