Caterpillar Marine extends hybrid and electric capabilities

Caterpillar Marine has extended its experience supplying variable speed generator sets for diesel-electric vessels, such as Edda Wind's CSOVs, into system integration.

The aim is to supply optimised hybrid and electric solutions to the industry and ensure that customers receive premium support regardless of where the vessel is constructed or delivered.

“This is an incredibly exciting time at Caterpillar Marine. Our product strategies have always been shaped by the voices of our customers, and those voices are now steering our system-level solutions as well. We look forward to helping our valued customers navigate the energy transition with our growing portfolio of products, technologies, and solutions,” said Derrick York, Caterpillar Marine Managing Director.

Caterpillar Marine recently announced that it was teaming up with Pacific6 Enterprises to pilot a parallel battery hybrid propulsion system for a first-of-its kind aquaculture farming vessel. In addition to supplying the vessel’s engines, Caterpillar Marine will also act as the system integrator on the project.
