KR and DSME team up on autonomous ship technology
Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) aims to launch a large autonomous merchant vessel in 2025, and the partners will jointly develop autonomous navigation technology.
A 12.5-metre pilot ship DAN-V has already been built to test technology developed in-house based on the DS4 Smart Ship Platform. The platform brings together data from onboard equipment and systems, providing enhanced operational information to the ship operator. It supports device connectivity and data storage as well as data processing and visualisation.
ABS awarded its ABS CyberSafety product design assessment (PDA) to the DS4 Smart Platform last year.
KR will certify the results of the pilot testing by evaluating the digital operation data of the DAN-V and applying classification rules, cybersecurity certification, and risk-based approval in accordance with its Guidelines for Self-Operating Vessels published in 2019.
