AiP for LCO2 carrier
Carbon dioxide capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) captures CO2 released from thermal power plants, factories, etc. and either reuses or stores it underground. It is attracting global attention as a way to help combat climate change.
LCO2 carriers will play a vital role in the CCUS process by transporting LCO2 to storage sites and facilities. ClassNK is providing technical verification on the sea transportation of LCO2, which is expected to be used worldwide.
lassNK carried out the design review of the LCO2 carriers based on its Part N of Rules for the Survey and Construction of Steel Ships incorporating the IGC Code. The AiP was issued for both medium and large scale vessels, confirming that the design for each cargo tank system, hull etc. conforms to the standards.
