HHI-EMD methanol genset completes type approval testing

Importer
HHI-EMD has completed type approval testing of a methanol dual fuel HiMSEN engine (H32DF-LM) at its Techno centre in Ulsan.

Classification societies Korean Register, ABS, and DNV were in attendance.

The H32DF-LM engine is a genset engine that selectively uses methanol and diesel fuel, and is characterised by significantly reducing SOx and NOx emissions and greenhouse gases. It prevents corrosion with special materials and applies diesel cycle combustion and electronically controlled fuel injection (common rail) methods in methanol mode to enable stable high-power operation.

The first methanol HiMSEN engine will be delivered to a 2,100 teu container vessel that is being built by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, and 50 engines (13 vessels) have been ordered so far. HHI-EMD expects the methanol HiMSEN engine demand to increase as several different vessel types are being considering for methanol fuel use.
