Osaka Gas and MHI team up on CCUS exploration

The agreement aims to establish a ‘CO2 value chain’, including capturing and transporting the gas from Japan and using it to produce e-methane.

The project partners will explore capture methods of CO2 produced by ‘hard-to-abate’ industries such as steel, cement and the chemical industry as well as the transportation of liquefied CO2 by sea.

Osaka Gas and MHI will conduct a feasibility study on the entire CCUS scheme, including CO2 use for e-methane and underground sequestration, in collaboration with companies from a wide variety of industries.

The project also plans to expand its CCUS scheme through the trade and transfer of CCUS’s environmental value as quantified by CO2NNEX, a digital platform under development by MHI and IBM Japan.
