The partners will take responsibility for different aspects of the vessel design, and associated LCO2 systems. K Shipbuilding will lead the development and design optimisation of a 12,000cbm capacity LCO2 carrier. The vessel will feature a medium-pressure containment system, with a design pressure of 19 bar. The dual-fuel carrier design will feature dual-fuel engines capable of operating on LNG.

Sunbo Industries will take responsibility for the development of a cargo handling system and a fuel supply system, while Dongsung Finetec will undertake the development of LCO2 cargo tanks and LNG fuel tanks.

KR will verify the safety and suitability of the ship in accordance with the classification rules and international conventions, with the ultimate intention of granting the design Approval in Principle (AIP).

The partners did not announce firm plans to begin construction of the vessel following the conclusion of the project. However, the partners did note that the collaborative effort was anticipated to propel the progress of the 12K CBM LCO2 carrier development project with enhanced efficiency.

LEE Hyungchul, Chairman & CEO of KR commented, “Through the collaboration of K Shipbuilding, Sunbo Industries and Dongsung Finetec, we look forward to the successful completion of the project, and to leading innovation and promoting growth in the maritime industry.”
