Order for 4 x 88,000cbm NH3 carriers includes NH3 DF option

If the NH3 carriers are equipped with dual-fuel NH3 engine, they will be capable of operating with net zero emissions. The first 88,000 cbm vessels are expected to be delivered from the second half of 2027.

The large capacity gas carriers feature specialised cargo tanks, allowing them to load ammonia at up to 98% of cargo tank capacity.

The signing ceremony for the order took place during Gastech 2023 in Singapore, whereby KSOE signed contracts for the world’s first four 88,000 CBM (㎥) VLACs with Capital Gas and Singapore’s Eastern Pacific Pte Ltd (EPS). 

The Motorship previously reported that EPS placed an order for three Newcastlemax bulk carriers with Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry, with an option for a further three vessels. That order is understood to be the first order for bulk carriers that will be powered by dual-fuel engines capable of operating on ammonia as fuel.
