Onboard carbon capture moves a step closer

Capable of operating in freezing waters, the two general cargo vessels have a gross tonnage of 6,000 and 9,100 respectively.

Each is powered with LNG and incorporates CO2 capture systems located on top of the LNG tanks or placed between the two cargo holds.

“Decarbonising the naval sector is an important objective not only for this industry, but for the entire economy,” said Roberto Fernández, director of marine at Sener.

“This decarbonisation can be a lever for growth and innovation, proposing challenges that, solved through technology, take the sector to a new level.”

Alongside this breakthrough technology, the Sener design reduces the towing resistance of each vessel, improving handling and lowering emissions even further.
