CMB.TECH confirms order for NH3-fuelled container feeder

The ship owner believes that the 1,400 teu container feeder will be the first ammonia-fuelled vessel to enter service, after delivery in mid-2026.

The shipowner notes that the order for the 1,400 teu ammonia-powered container vessel has been placed in connection with NCL Oslofjord AS, a joint venture between Yara Clean Ammonia and NCL, which will operate the vessel. NCL Oslofjord has also been awarded a long-term contract of affreightment with Yara International.

The ammonia-fuelled containership, Yara Eyde, is expected to operate between Yara’s plant in Porsgrunn in Norway and Hamburg and Bremerhaven. Yara Clean Ammonia will supply ammonia fuel to the vessel.

The Motorship notes that the ammonia-fuelled containership project was initially announced in late 2023, and has been awarded a NOK40 million grant from Enova towards the cost of acquiring the vessel.
