DNV approves Hempel hull coating

The company says its Hempaguard X7 coating, launched in 2013, significantly reduces fuel consumption, contributing to a substantial reduction in carbon emissions.

“At Hempel, we’ve long known that Hempaguard stands out in the industry for its superior performance and environmental benefits, helping our customers save costs and improve their bottom line,” said Alexander Enström, executive vice president and head of Marine at Hempel.

“But DNV’s third-party validation and verification is an important milestone for us to reach, and it only reinforces the credibility of Hempaguard’s unmatched performance in the market.”

The company attributes demand for the coating to the introduction of evermore ambitious decarbonisation targets.

It says that third-party verification has put the fuel savings achieved by using Hempaguard X7 at up to 20% with an average speed loss of 1.4%.

Hempel has recently passed a significant milestone with the application of more than 4,000 coatings worldwide.

“Our customers’ demand for Hempaguard clearly confirms the impact of this premium anti-fouling solution,” said Enström.

“[This milestone is] equivalent to taking approximately 5,125,978 cars off the roads in saved CO2 emissions.”
