Azane receives AiP from DNV for its ammonia safety system
This milestone is part of Azane’s aim of advancing technologies to enable the safe handling of ammonia as a marine fuel, reinforcing its leadership in ammonia bunkering solutions.
The Azane ARMS (pictured) is intricately connected to a vessel’s fuel and engine systems, where it captures ammonia emissions and ensures that any potential releases are contained within safe, regulated thresholds. This technology is crucial in safeguarding both the crew and the environment from the hazardous effects of ammonia exposure.
The approval from DNV underscores Azane Fuel Solutions’ capability in developing ammonia fuel-handling systems that meet the industry’s highest safety standards. This latest recognition builds upon DNV’s previous approval in principle for Azane’s floating bunkering terminal in 2022 and the world’s first ammonia bunkering safety permit awarded earlier this year.
Steinar Kostøl, VP of projects & products at Azane, highlighted the significance of the ARMS technology, stating, “Efficient ARMS technology is vital for the broader adoption of ammonia as a marine fuel. We anticipate that this will become mandatory equipment on all ammonia-powered vessels. In developing our bunkering solutions, we prioritised minimising maintenance requirements for ARMS. The outcome is a robust, reliable technology that doesn’t rely on liquids or burning residuals, making it easier to integrate across various vessel designs.”
