The acquisition aligns with Kongsberg’s ambitions to expand its capabilities as a specialist in ocean technologies.

Geir Håøy, CEO of Kongsberg Gruppen, highlighted the strategic fit of Naxys within the company’s portfolio, stating: “As an ocean space expert, we have developed world-leading solutions to map, monitor and understand the oceans. The acquisition of Naxys complements our technology portfolio and supports our growth ambitions in this critical sector.”

Naxys Technologies will become part of Kongsberg Discovery, a business area established in 2023 following its spin-off from Kongsberg Maritime. The new division focuses on advanced sensors and underwater robotics, areas critical to addressing growing demands for sustainability and safety in maritime operations.

Kongsberg Discovery CEO, Martin Wien Fjell, noted the importance of Naxys’ expertise in passive hydroacoustics, describing the company as a key player in environmental monitoring for the oil and gas sector, with opportunities for growth in research and defence markets. “Naxys ensures oil and gas companies can be promptly alerted to leaks, which is vital as sustainability requirements become increasingly stringent,” Fjell said.

Founded in 1999, Naxys Technologies is recognised as a global leader in passive acoustic leak detection and monitoring subsea machinery such as pumps and compressors. Its client base primarily consists of major oil and gas companies.

Kongsberg Discovery, which has a long history of hydroacoustic innovation dating back to the 1950s, sees the acquisition as a way to broaden its product portfolio. “With Naxys’ technology, we enhance our position in the market, enabling us to offer a wider range of solutions,” said Fjell.

Jens Abrahamsen, general manager and co-founder of Naxys Technologies, emphasised the growth opportunities the acquisition provides. “As part of Kongsberg, we now have the chance to expand internationally. Kongsberg Discovery is the ideal partner, sharing our vision and ambition,” he said.

The acquisition also ensures that Naxys’ operations, including production, research and development, as well as sales and service, will remain in Bergen. The company employs 28 people at its Hegreneset facility and anticipates a turnover exceeding NOK 100 million in 2024.

“This agreement is a significant milestone for Naxys and an exciting step towards a shared future with Kongsberg Discovery. I am confident that the team in Bergen will play a vital role in advancing our mutual goals,” Fjell concluded.
