The Prima Verde was delivered to Onomichi Dockyard Co. on 30 January and is reportedly the world’s first vessel of any type to use green steel materials, an engine that can run exclusively on marine gas oil and a wind-assisted propulsion system.

Flying under the Liberian flag the 129.66 metre vessel features:

  • A hull made with JGreeX, a green steel material supplied by JFE Steel Corporation in which CO2 emission reductions in the steel manufacturing process are allocated to optional steel materials.
  • A Japan Engine Corporation engine that can run exclusively on MGO. The engine has high combustion efficiency and low carbon dioxide emissions during operation.
  • Two VentoFoil wind power assisted vessel propulsion devices from Econowind, for which MOL Techno-Trade serves as a sales agent.
