Wärtsilä engines to boost ADM’s efficiency

The vessels, owned by ADM Naviera Chaco will undergo modifications and engine installations in Asuncion, Paraguay. The two vessels, the Decatur Lady and the Tendota, will each be fitted with three Wärtsilä 20 engines.

“ADM’s vision to be the provider of choice to meet the demand for low-carbon intensity feedstocks is very much in line with Wärtsilä’s own commitment to supporting the industry’s decarbonisation efforts.”

The new fuel-flexible Wärtsilä 20 engines will reportedly reduce environmental impact and improve the efficiency of the tug pushers. ADM aims to reduce emissions by 25% by 2035, with the Wärtsilä technology playing a key role.

“The Wärtsilä engines selected for this project have the fuel flexibility that we seek, especially as we look to the potential of alternative future fuels,” said Raul Valdez, logistic director – ADM Naviera Chaco.

“The project will help us to improve operational reliability and lower our maintenance costs.”

With a fleet that includes 2,500 barges and over 160 boats, ADM positions itself as a leader in sustainable transport solutions across South America.

The orders for the engines were booked in Q2 and Q4 of 2024.
