Wärtsilä simulator powers alternative fuel readiness

The cutting-edge simulation facility equips seafarers with practical skills for handling methanol, ammonia and other emerging fuels critical to maritime decarbonisation.

Integrated training

The Wärtsilä system integrates navigation simulators, liquid cargo handling modules and alternative fuel-specific training to help crews transition confidently into the green energy era.

With a full-mission bridge simulator, extended reality (XR) training and blended cloud-based learning, the system enables hands-on experience with dual-fuel engines and safe handling of alternative energy sources.

The platform also offers detailed liquid cargo handling training, an essential component in fuel transportation and storage.

Neil Bennett, general manager at Wärtsilä, noted: “The inauguration of these simulators allows ALAM students to achieve a new higher level of competence that they need for today’s highly automated and digital vessels.”

Founded in 1976, ALAM has provided training for more than 15,000 maritime professionals for both onshore and offshore operations. It began its relationship with Wärtsilä back in 2006 with the launch of the Maritime Simulation and Communication Centre.
