Auerbach chooses NexusWave connectivity

Hamburg-based Auerbach has launched a fleet renewal programme in response to rising demand for high quality project cargo transport and to prepare for tightening environmental regulations.

Its new ECO multipurpose vessels, currently under construction at China’s Taizhou Sanfu Shipyard, are designed to set ‘new benchmarks in cargo handling capability and fuel efficiency’. NexusWave will play a key role in maintaining these standards by ensuring continuous connectivity for mission critical onboard systems.

“Our ongoing fleet renewal programme reflects a commitment to leading the modernisation of the project cargo sector,” said Jan Boldt, technical director at Auerbach.

“Inmarsat’s NexusWave will support efficient operations and regulatory compliance, while also meeting customer and crew expectations through unlimited, high-speed connectivity from a single managed source.”

Inmarsat says that NexusWave combines high speed connectivity, global coverage and unlimited data, delivering an experience comparable to shore-based internet. For Auerbach, the solution is expected to enhance operational efficiency while strengthening its competitive position in the project cargo market.

Jan-Henning Stehr, sales manager Europe at Inmarsat Maritime, said the agreement highlights a broader industry shift. “Modern shipowners recognise the competitive advantage of fully managed bonded connectivity,” he said.

“NexusWave provides the seamless, next generation communications that align with Auerbach’s ambition to operate cutting edge, future-ready vessels.”

Auerbach is the latest in a raft of operators to partner with Inmarsat. In recent years, Maersk, Pacific Basin, K Line and Hapag-Lloyd have all trialled or adopted NexusWave technology.
