ABS and HD KSOE partner digitally

The memorandum of understanding establishes a framework for cooperation on Digital Threads, enabling secure and integrated data flows throughout the entire vessel value chain. The collaboration will focus on areas including digital engineering, autonomous vessel systems and integrated cybersecurity technologies.

“This MOU is another milestone in the long-running collaboration between ABS and HD Hyundai,” said John McDonald, ABS chair and chief executive.

“Digital technologies are reshaping shipbuilding, and this agreement reflects our shared commitment to lead at the cutting edge of the maritime industry, helping to improve safety and operational value now.”

The partnership will also explore the development of 3D model-based approval systems and trusted data exchange between shipyards and classification societies, supporting more streamlined and efficient vessel design and certification processes.

“Through collaboration with ABS, we expect to lead the development of digital engineering standards spanning the entire vessel lifecycle and to accelerate market entry by securing global class certifications,” said Ki-sun Chung, chair and chief executive of HD Hyundai.

As part of the agreement, the organisations will examine integration between HD KSOE’s Software Defined Vessel architecture and ABS Wavesight, the company’s digital platform designed for fleet performance and compliance monitoring.

The companies will additionally work together on integrated cybersecurity and data protection guidelines for autonomous vessel operations. The collaboration aims to build upon existing International Association of Classification Societies requirements while addressing growing cybersecurity risks.
