Based on the company’s steel transfer technology, the TransSteel 3500 and 5000 Yard (350A and 500A respectively) are both available as gas-cooled or water-cooled systems. They are intended to offer the correct weld properties for steel, while providing maximum mobility in challenging working environments. The devices are claimed to operate reliably at all times, even when the ambient air is saturated with aggressive salt water, at extremes of temperature and in high humidity.

The design features central media routing from the power source to the wire-feed unit and on to the interchangeable torch. The detachable VR 5000 Yard wire-feed unit can be safely carried or dragged on its sliding baseplate to the workplace, while an attachment is provided for transportation by crane.

When working in difficult to access locations, the system can be switched to electrode mode by pressing a button on the wire-feed unit, so that rod electrodes take the place of the welding torch. The system includes an integrated gas flow regulator. The Fronius system connector (FSC) conveys all the media required during the welding process, and does away with the need for external control plugs. In conjunction with the FSC, the ‘ComfortWire’ function enables the wires to be threaded automatically when the wire feed rollers are closed.

Complementary product lines include systems for joining high-alloy (CrNi-) steels using solid or flux core wires, and a ‘Steel on Primer’ line to minimise spatter when welding primed plates. A TransSteel Robotic system is also available.
