Injection milestone for L’Orange

According to L’Orange, electronically-controlled injection technology is a major element in the achievement of low-emissions in diesel engines while maintaining low fuel consumption – the electronic control system allows achievement of an optimum balance between injection pressure, timing and sequence.

“Against the background of ever more stringent emissions legislation, injection is of enormous strategic significance for engine manufacturers,” explained L’Orange CEO Dr Ralph-Michael Schmidt.

The company says that it has been manufacturing common rail injectors for off-highway applications in high-volume series production since 1996. The 500,000^th injector was destined for an MTU Series 4000 engine.

The unit was produced at the recently-opened L’Orange manufacturing facility in Glatten, in the Black Forest region of Germany. Production in Glatten focuses on common-rail injectors for the MTU 4000 engine series, as well as providing a transport and logistics centre.

L’Orange says it invested about €8 million in the extension of manufacturing capacity in Glatten, making the new building the largest single investment in the history of the company. Another €3 million was invested in the equipment for the facility, where manufacturing is undertaken according to ‘lean production’ principles in order to shorten process cycles.
