The KRAL Volumeter from the OMG 32 series with new sensor technology

The sensors which are being updated are the OMG, OMH and OME series, which have been optimised allowing higher resolution and improved temperature handling capabilities – increasing the maximum temperature for OMG and OMH from 150°C to 180°C. The company says that the upgraded sensors provide an all-in-one solution for measurement of flow amount, flow direction and temperature; thanks to miniaturisation and system integration, a single sensor is now sufficient where three separate sensors were previously required.

The new system is located in a connection box, standardised for all models, types and sizes. Other improvements include an accessible terminal strip for easier connection. The new connection box enables use of either a connector, or cable entries of up to 13mm diameter with M20 x 1.5 thread. The combination of Kral Volumeter and the new design of the connection box is intended to satisfy prerequisites for a rugged liquid measurement system, under rough operating conditions.

Ro-pax application

Danish shipping company DFDS Seaways has fitted Kral fuel consumption measurement equipment to three of its ro-pax ships, Dover Seaways, Delft Seaways and Dunkerque Seaways. 27 systems are fitted overall, measuring consumption of each ship’s four main engines, the gensets and the burner units. Each location has a BEM 500 indicator, with all nine data streams on each vessel fed to a single BEM 800 display on the bridge.

“The analysis of the data allows us to optimise the fuel consumption of the ship as a whole or individually for each individual section of the system”, said Nigel Cureton, fleet manager. During the transition phase from heavy oil to distillates, the system can assist in observing the temperature gradient specified by the engine manufacturers.
