2013 Motorship Conference: call for papers

Importer
24/25 April 2013, Hilton Airport Hotel, Copenhagen, Denmark

By 2015 some 35.000 vessels of the worldwide fleet are predicted to be entering one of the Emission Controlled Areas in Europe or the US! 30.000 of these are vessels in operation today which will need to implement measures for conformity with the stringent 0.1% ECA low sulphur emissions.

The majority of operators are still addressing this and searching for the optimum solutions for their fleets before the 2015 deadline. In addition operators are faced with the upcoming compliance of SEEMP and/or EEDI, with many viewing this as a stipulated paper exercise rather than an actual improvement to their bottom line

The conference will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 24-25 April 2013. We are inviting paper submission and case studies to cover the following areas:

The Current Situation :

  • How are the low sulphur ECA requirements being met and addressed by: Suppliers to the industry; The fleet operator; The superintendent and crew onboard the fleet.
  • Case studies of workable solutions in operation already now!
  • Methods of improving the efficiency and fuel economy on existing ships.
  • What is the impact of SEEMP (coming into force January 2013) for today’s operators
  • How can Class aide in fuel-saving and complying with rules?
  • The big ECA enforcement question? – how and who?
  • What is the effect on ships and machinery of slow steaming, and low sulphur fuel?
  • Experiences with low-NOx and low-SOx measures, e.g. EGR, SCR, scrubbers, including exhaust gas monitoring (measurement of exhaust gas components)
  • Experiences with fuel saving measures (e.g. trim optimisation, low-resistance hull coatings, propeller modifications)

The next stage:

  • New buildings – The EEDI – how does it work – what will it mean for operators/owners?
  • Newbuildings 2016 – IMO NOx Tier III – the legislation and examples of how to comply
  • Carbon emissions, particulates, greenhouse gases (including black carbon) – what is the impact for ship owners and operators?
  • Fuel availability now and beyond 2020 – the role of LNG, HFO, distillates and biofuels, what will/could happen to existing ships and machinery? Can HFO supplies be assured after 2020?

Lowering the EEDI – alternative solutions – – case studies on ultra-slow steaming, wind assistance, super-efficient hull and propeller design
