Tug-in-a-box concept from Dutch designers

The small 6m long single-screw tug is designed to fit within the confines of a standard 20ft container, allowing it to be transported anywhere, by road and rail as well as by sea, said to provide optimal flexibility for operators.

Powered by a single Volvo Penta D5A engine driving a 0.71m FP propeller, the ContainerTug is capable of 1,200kg bollard pull, as well as offering good deck space and high-manoeuvrability thanks to a large rudder. The designers intend to offer a twin-screw version, the 600D.

The tug is constructed with the hull in steel, and the wheelhouse is made from aluminium alloy. The upper part of the wheelhouse can be removed and stored on the aft deck for transportation. The tug can be delivered with a Bureau Veritas class notation if required.
