Ro-pax 'San Sha No 1` was completed from concept to delivery in just two years

The ship entered service on 1 January and was delivered from concept in less than 24 months. The vessel carries wheeled cargo, containers and trailers as well as passengers, and has shortened the sailing time between the port of Qinglan in Hainan Province and the city of Sansha on Yongxing Island from 15 to 10 hours.

San Sha No 1 is 122.3m long and 21m wide, with a displacement of 7,800 tonnes and a range of 6,000 nautical miles. It can accommodate up to 456 passengers and 20 standard trailers, and has been designed to allow effective boat-to-boat embarkation.

The vessel can sail normally against BF8 winds and remain secure in a full gale. It is equipped with a helicopter landing platform for maritime rescue and island patrolling.

Knud E Hansen’s scope of work on the vessel comprised concept, tender and basic design including: hull lines; safety and stability; steel structural design; and outfitting and machinery.
