MOL orders six LNG-ready containerships

The 400m vessels, to be built by Samsung Heavy Industries and Imabari Shipbuilding, will use various advanced energy-saving technologies, which Mitsui says will further reduce fuel consumption and cost, in comparison with 14,000 teu types that it currently operates.

The vessels’ main engines are LNG-ready, meaning the fuel can be used in the future if required.

MOL’s new vessels will be launched and delivered in 2017 and will cover the Asia-Europe service.

The company has also signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for long-term chartering of two 20,000 teu containerships with Shoei Kisen Kaisha, Ltd.
