Cruise ship industrial park for Shanghai
Fabrizio Ferri, CEO of Fincantieri China; Chen Qi, vice president of CSSC; and Su Ping, deputy mayor of Baoshan district, made the agreement following Fincantieri’s February deal with CSSC and Carnival Corporation for the construction of two cruise ships.
Baoshan, featuring Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal, is China’s largest commercial and cruise port and February’s commission, which includes the option for an additional four vessels, will be the first of its kind to be built in China specifically for the Chinese market.
The three parties will create a hub dedicated to cruise activities, as well as shipbuilding and maritime. Fincantieri will manage the project’s activities, while CSSC will be charged with supervision.
Baoshan district will provide financial and legislative support and land for development, with the intention that the project partners will attract foreign direct investment.
Fincantieri says Baoshan could benefit from the Shanghai Free-Trade Zone and the China Cruise Tourism Development Experimental Zone.
