ABB expands marine automation portfolio

The acquisition, which is expected to close during the third quarter of 2026 subject to regulatory approvals, will see Høglund become part of ABB’s Marine & Ports division. Financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.

Headquartered in Tønsberg, Norway, Høglund employs more than 80 people across Norway, Poland, Romania and China. The company, currently owned by Eitzen Group, generated revenues of almost €30 million in 2025.

Høglund is recognised for its Integrated Automation System, which is built on ABB’s 800M and S800 control system hardware platform. Installed on more than 600 vessels worldwide, the modular system integrates automation, monitoring and control functions while collecting data from engines, power generation and cargo handling systems to improve operational performance, safety and energy efficiency.

Following completion of the acquisition, ABB said Høglund’s customers will gain access to its broader global service network, expanded automation expertise and wider geographical support.

The acquisition reflects ABB’s continued investment in digitalisation and automation technologies as shipowners seek greater operational efficiency, improved safety and reduced environmental impact.
