AiP for Daphne Technology’s methane abatement technology

The SlipPure™ technology reduces methane emissions from the exhaust of LNG-fuelled engines. Methane slip has been significantly reduced in modern engines, but it remains a major risk in operating LNG fuelled vessels.

The AiPs will enable the technology to proceed to pilot applications. 

SlipPure can also be combined with carbon capture technologies making IMO GHG 2050 goals achievable today, says the company.

Daphne Technology is piloting a one-step exhaust gas cleaning technology that forms the core solution for removing combustion emissions from fossil fuels as well as new fuels such as ammonia and hydrogen.

It is also involved in several different pilots in the Green Shipping Program (GSP), focusing on advancing new technologies and solutions to decarbonise the maritime industry. The company is part of the Zero Carbon Emission pilot, initiated by Color Line, the largest cruise ferry line operating on routes to and from Norway.

Color Line’s vision is to offer its customers zero carbon emission sailing between Norway and Denmark by upgrading the ferry, M/S SuperSpeed 1. The pilot study aims to conduct a techno-economic screening of current fuel technologies and then a more in-depth analysis of the most promising and relevant technologies.

Daphne is also one of the partners in the “Ammonia as Fuel” pilot, an industry partnership led by Grieg Maritime Group. The project will investigate whether green ammonia can technically function as fuel at long sea distances and whether it is economically feasible. While most projects on ammonia are looking at newbuilds, this pilot aims to retrofit one of Grieg’s 8-year-old Open Hatch ships.
