Astilleros Gondan launches hydrogen-ready CSOV
The newbuildings were ordered by Norwegian shipowner Edda Wind, and will be operated by Østensjø Rederi upon delivery. Delivery is expected in Q1 2022, an Astilleros Gondan representative confirmed to The Motorship.
Edda Wind agreed a long-term time charter agreement with offshore wind operator Ocean Breeze Energy in 2020. Upon entering service, the vessel will support Ocean Breeze during its operations at the Bard Offshore 1 wind farm in Germany.
The diesel-electric CSOV includes twin Voith Schneider eVSP 1,900 kW propulsors and will also feature three Brunvoll Fixed Pitch 1,300kW bow thrusters.
The CSOV’s propulsion system consists of Siemens’ BlueDrive PlusC Star diesel-electric propulsion system and features three Cat 3512E variable speed generating sets with a power output of 1,770kW each.
The newbuild will be delivered as a “hydrogen-ready” vessel, prepared for future installation of hydrogen-based technology.
The facilities include the installation of complete tank systems for hydrogen storage and the allocation of dedicated machinery space for fuel cells. Enova, the Norwegian technology fund, is subsidising the cost of the installations.
