Auramarine to supply fuel systems for Meriaura’s new Ecotrader ships

The systems will support operational reliability, performance, and safety aboard the vessels, which are being built by Royal Bodewes shipyard in the Netherlands.

The two ships, designated hull numbers BN832 and BN833, are part of Meriaura’s Ecotrader series, designed to minimise emissions while improving efficiency. These vessels will measure 105 metres in length, hold 6750 DWT, and carry a 1A ice-class rating. Compared to their EcoCoaster predecessors, the Ecotrader ships boast a 30% increase in capacity, delivering greater economic efficiency while reducing the environmental impact of transport.

Auramarine’s fuel systems, which will be manufactured in its Shanghai factory and delivered to the shipyard in May 2025 and March 2026, are designed to handle various biofuels. These systems regulate fuel temperature and viscosity, ensuring optimal engine performance and mitigating risks such as costly damage or unplanned downtime. They also allow operators to meet stringent quality standards, an increasingly vital factor as shipping embraces a multifuel future.

The Ecotrader vessels will benefit from the ability to operate on biofuels made from recycled raw materials. These fuels are produced by Meriaura’s subsidiary VG-EcoFuel, providing ship operators with enhanced flexibility in fuel choice and aligning with Meriaura’s commitment to sustainability. The company has set ambitious goals for carbon neutrality within the 2030s and is proactively developing alternative fuel solutions rather than adopting a passive approach.

Auramarine CEO John Bergman emphasised the value of collaboration in creating tailored solutions for industry leaders like Meriaura. “Through close cooperation with shipowners and shipyards, we deliver reliable systems that enhance effective fuel management and safety,” he said. Bergman also stressed the importance of high-quality systems in ensuring long-term operational integrity for vessels navigating a multifuel landscape.
