BV classes biggest purpose-built asphalt carrier
The Asphalt Splendor is capable of carrying liquids at a temperature of up to 170 degrees C in 16 independent tanks with a total capacity of 35,666m³.
Phillipe Donch-Gay, executive vice-president and head of Marine & Offshore Division at BV, said: “The high cargo temperatures in asphalt carriers place special demands on structure, construction quality and equipment.”
“The Asphalt Splendor will be a state of the art vessel, with excellent environmental and operational performance,” he added.
Overall length is 179.90m with a breadth and depth of 30.60m and 16.80m respectively. There are three cargo pumps of 500m³/h each together with a Wärtsilä 5RT-flex 6.400kW at 99rpm propulsion plant.
The vessel was built at Avic Dingheng, China and is one of a series of two designed by Chinese design institute, SDARI, in cooperation with Sargeant Marine.
