Cavotec retrofits vessels for shorepower

The contract covers the retrofit of both low- and medium-voltage container vessels with shore power systems, enabling ships to connect to onshore electricity while in port and reduce emissions from auxiliary engines.

To minimise disruption, the retrofit programme will be completed while the vessels remain in operation, allowing normal sailing schedules to continue. The order was signed during the second quarter of 2026, with deliveries scheduled to take place during the remainder of the year.

The latest agreement means the customer has now selected Cavotec to equip a total of 24 container ships with shorepower systems across 2025 and 2026.

Shorepower technology allows vessels to switch off onboard generators and draw electricity directly from the local grid while berthed, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality around ports and lower noise levels.

The latest contract reflects growing demand across the maritime sector for electrification solutions as shipowners and operators invest in technologies that support decarbonisation goals while complying with increasingly stringent environmental regulations.

For Cavotec, the order builds on its expanding portfolio of retrofit projects, reinforcing the company’s role in helping container shipping operators modernise existing fleets and accelerate the transition towards cleaner port operations.
