Chevron broadens collaboration with Cummins into biofuels

The new agreement is intended to encourage the commercial and industrial adoption of the fuels in North America.

The agreement envisages Cummins and Chevron leveraging their experience and expertise in alternative fuels innovation, systems and technologies to enable the commercial development of alternative fuels production, transportation and delivery systems for industrial and commercial markets.

The agreement notes that it will target consumption by transportation segments supplied by Cummins, such as on- and off-highway applications as well as marine transportation.

The Motorship notes that while the broadened scope of the agreement appeared to focus on biofuels, it also identified other liquid renewables among the workstreams in the new collaboration agreement, alongside an existing focus on hydrogen and both renewable and conventional natural gas.

Chevron U.S.A. and Cummins previously announced they would explore a strategic alliance to develop commercially viable business opportunities in hydrogen and other alternative energy sources in 2021. 

On 30 June 2023, Cummins announced the buyout of Air Liquide’s 19% interest in Hydrogenics Corporation. Cummins acquired Hydrogenics in 2019, adding fuel cell and electrolyzer technologies to its portfolio. Cummins established a zero-emissions brand, Accelera by Cummins, on 8 March 2023 to market these technologies within Cummins.
