Consortium focuses on liquid hydrogen storage

Developed by Hydrogenious the LOHC technology uses heat transfer oil as a carrier for hydrogen, allowing it to be stored under ambient conditions and tripling the amount that can be transported compared to standard pressurised containers.

“We strongly believe that the global goal to build a climate neutral economy largely depends on the future use of green hydrogen and other gases produced from renewable energy”, said Dr. Uwe Lauber, chief executive of MAN Energy Solutions.

To meet the needs for the future hydrogen market in respect to bulk hydrogen storage and transportation, the new partners have developed systems with hydrogen capacities of 5 and 12 tonnes per day.

Hydrogenious LOHC Technologies is contributing its technical know-how to the cooperation whilst Frames Group will be responsible for the overall design and implementation of the hydrogenation plant. MAN ES completes the consortium with its experience in design and fabrication of reactor systems for chemical and petrochemical applications.

The new partnership is part of MAN ES’s aim to expand its business with sustainable technologies and solutions such that they become its main source of revenue by 2030. This realignment includes the expansion of the company’s product range to include hybrid, storage and digital service technologies.
